The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
The preview shows the young girl ā who received the toy collection when he left for college ā receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
