Heartbreaking News on UPS Incident: Death Toll Increases to 13

The tally of victims from the freight aircraft which ignited and crashed has climbed to 13, per recent announcements.

Official's Remarks

“On my way to the Teamsters’ memorial service, I learned of a 13th person that passed away as a consequence of the plane accident,” wrote the city mayor in a online message. “My heart is with the relatives, companions and peers of all who were killed in this recently occurred tragedy. We will endure this as one.”

Victims Identified

A statement from the carrier listed the pilots aboard the jet as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our hearts go out to all employee who has been touched and everyone in our community area – assisting you and making sure you receive the attention and aid you need is our main concern,” the organization’s message read.

Inquiry Updates

Federal authorities disclosed that the freight aircraft’s wing burst into flames and an engine detached just after liftoff from the aviation hub, causing the aircraft to plummet and explode into a blaze.

The NTSB has said it is probing the plane’s upkeep logs, that was in Texas for repairs weeks prior to the incident.

Aviation information showed the aircraft was on the runway in San Antonio, Texas from early September to mid-October.

“We are knowledgeable that this jet was there in the facility,” said an NTSB member on Thursday, without a specific time frame. “We will look at every piece of maintenance that was done, from the Texas visit, right up to the day of the flight.”

Recovery of Vital Items

The cockpit voice recorder and information unit were recovered, and the engine was found on the runway.

The recorders – called flight recorders – were built to survive crash impacts and intense temperatures from blazes, and they appeared to be in one piece when discovered within the remains. Officials will examining recordings from the black boxes.

Jet’s concluding flight details showed an altitude of 475 ft and a velocity of 210 mph ahead of the accident.

Service Record

According to Federal Aviation Administration files from 18 September, a crack on a structural piece within the fuel container demanded maintenance.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which stated it supplies structural repairs for the carrier’s aircraft and manages a repair facility in San Antonio, refused to comment, but said it would cooperate fully when officials contacted it.

Activities Restart

At the same time, the facility operations resumed Wednesday night with its overnight or nighttime operation, spokesperson Jim Mayer stated. Each of the three runways at the airport were also open again.

The distribution hub in this location is the company’s biggest. The center employs in excess of 20,000 workers in the region, manages 300 trips per day and sorts over 400,000 parcels each hour.

Community Support

A candlelight vigil was conducted on the late afternoon of 6 November by the local Teamsters Union, which supports staff at the Louisville airport, the company’s primary air cargo hub.

The union chapter, which supports staff, commenced the gathering with a quiet tribute at the evening hour, the rough hour of the incident two days earlier.

“This tragedy was so unexpected, so unforeseen,” the mayor spoke to the crowd of 200. “No one had a moment to say goodbye to each of those who we have mourned.”
